In the exhibition Day Dreaming, the Japanese artists Eiko Ishizawa and Chiaki Kamikawa will present their latest works, installations, sculptures and drawings. For the past two years, both Ishizawa and Kamikawa have been working at the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam and this exhibition is to show the development of their works during the time at the institute.

Eiko Ishizawa creates sculptural objects, textiles, drawings and installations, connecting visual fantasy with the peculiarity of reality. Ishizawa explores the tension between the cultural and natural world while investigating the relationship of fiction and fact.
In this exhibition, Ishizawa presents the installation entitled The Great Sleeping Bear under the Cherry Blossom Tree. In this work she sets up the alluring spring scene consisting of textile woods printed with floral patterns, and a life-size bear sculpture that is modified to a sleeping bag. The installation invites the viewer to come and meet the bear under the exaggerated beauty of the cherry blossom scenery.
Eiko Ishizawa was born in Nara, Japan in 1981. She has been living and studying in Amsterdam since 2000. She graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam with a BA in fashion design. Since 2005 she had been studying at the Sandberg Instituut and has graduated this June.

Chiaki Kamikawa explores the border between personal and universal imagery. Inspired by her own recollection of everyday scenes, Kamikawa creates mysterious and often surreal images. In this exhibition Kamikawa will present a drawing-installation entitled 'My Private Grand Funeral', in which she sets up her own funeral scene with a large numbers of drawings and drawn sculptures. Her drawings focus on the “memories of others” regarding the dead in the funeral. Visitors are invited to be funeral guests and at the same time experience the fantasy which is created by the artist.
Chiaki Kamikawa was born in Kawasaki, Japan, in 1976. She studied at Edinburgh College of Art where she was awarded a BA in Jewellery design. Since 2005 she has been studying at the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam.
